Helio X20 and P10 are two newly developed chips from MediaTek, both featuring great functionality and framework design. But the two SOCs are aimed at different market. Helio X20 delivers powerful performance and targets high-end chip market. And Helio P10 aims at relatively middle-level market. Here we will make a brief comparison between X20 and P10.

Let’s start with the configuration of the two SOCs. MTK X20, adopting 20nm technology, has 3 clusters and 10 processing cores, including 2 Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, 4 Cortex -A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz respectively.
However MTK P10 adopts 28nm technology, and is composed of 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.1 GHz and 4 Cortex-A53 clocked at 2.0 GHz.

Even though we know that the performance of a SOC is not determined only by the number of processing cores, the additional two Cortex-A72 cores with up to 2.3 GHz frequency makes MTK X20 even more powerful. When you are running heavy games and apps that requires high performance, the two cores will work collaboratively to ensure the smoothness of operation. When running usual apps or light games, MTK X20 will just invoke the 4 middle cores or the other 4 small cores. As for running small apps and touches or slides, it will awaken only the 4 small cores. Those 10 processing cores will be switched on or off smartly via the allocating system – Corepilot 3.0, thus to prolong the battery life to a great degree.

In terms of GPU, X20 carries Mail-T880 MP4 clocked at 780MHz(quad-core); and P10 merely carries Mail-T860 clocked at 700MHz(dual-core). In comparison, T880 is more powerful than T860 in processing ability. Moreover, quad-core GPU will beat dual-core GPU in any way.
In addition, X20 supports the SilkSwipe technology which is newly developed by MTK and P10 doesn’t have that. This new technology is designed to enhance the graphing and responsive speed, which will surely bring to us much smoother touch experience.

What’s more, X20 sports Imagia image processor, which features exclusive optimization on the dual main cameras. For example, it has a built-in 3D depth engine as well as multi-scale de-noise engines, for faster response time between shots and unprecedented detail, color, and sharpness, even under extreme conditions.

The two SOCs support different specifications as well. P10 only supports 1080P screen, 21MP camera and can shoot or play mere 1080P videos. However X20 supports 2K screen, 25MP camera or even dual main cameras, and can shoot or play 4K videos. Besides, X20 supports all-platform fingerprint payment, which makes the fingerprint sensor even more useful.

Those two SOCs both support Cat.6 and 4G+ network, dual SIM dual standby and VoLTE HD voice calls. And they both feature MiraVision 2.0 image display technology, which improves the viewing effects, enhances the visibility under the Sunlight, and can auto adjust the color saturation.
